Paarijatham - As Fresh as the Title !!

I bet all of you would have read umpteen reviews about this movie , but I will try to do do some justice to my review in terms of analyzing it according to the audience's expectation.

Amidst all the kokki kumar's , don seras, kokki saamis and thalainagaram dons paarijaatham comes as a breather and lends credibility to its title with a screenplay that is as fresh and refreshing as a cup of morning filter coffee( stolen this line from kanda naal mudhal) . Some people might not agree but I believe that after kanda naal mudhal if I can talk about a clean movie satisfying all audiences then paarijatham is it. Bhagyaraj the veteran fires on all cylinders and leaves no stone unturned in ensuring that parijatham is the perfect launching pad for his daughter saranya.

I am not going to talk about the story as it robs the reader of the thrill of the movie. The trailer itself teases you with both prithviraj and saranya having two moms and two dads respectively. This raises the expectation level and you are not disappointed with the outcome. It takes a master story teller like bhagyaraj to come out with a plot like this. Though this might remind you of subtle similarities with his earlier film rajakumari, the treatment given here is much superior.

What are the major highlights??

a)Screenplay - moves at a rapid pace as well has the ability to keep the viewers interest glued to it. Well interwoven scenes and a surprise is always there to be unfolded. The thrill keeps on increasing. Though not to the level of kadhal kottai, the thrill is sustained till the end. Though the climax is a bit of let down, till the end the movie is racy. Not a single dull moment.

b) Prithviraj - Honestly where was this actor all along ? Boy, he amazes me with his sense of humour and histrionic skills. His voice is also pretty unique ( the malayali accent) and adds to the comic situation. The actor showcased his abilities in kanaa kandein and he comes of age in paarijatham.

c) Music - the new boy dharan is the music director to watch for in the future. holds immense potential.All songs are peppy and in sync with the GEN Y 's expectations. Esp: the song unnai kandene takes u to the next level.

d) Camera - Each and every shot has been captured so beautifully that you wonder how on earth was a old timer like bhagyaraj who earlier gave us the forgettable sokka thangam able to extract so much from a cameraman. whoever was behind the scenes, hats off to him !! The freeze effect in the song unnai kandene rocks. While u have directors like shankar who spend millions in such techniques, bhagyaraj optimally spends and yet brings out effects which are a treat to watch on screen. The clear distinction between the actor's facial expressions and the rain is yet another highlight. The colour contrasting has been done extremely well and costumes have been chosen in sync with the background.

e) sharanya - poor girl, its her debut film and it would be ironical if I don't say anything abt her. She has done what was expected out of her. She is not a bomb , but I guess has potential to act in character roles. She has to watch her weight. Again full credit for bhagyaraj for portraying sharanya in a manner which suits her best.( remember ghajini where nayan was portrayed in the worst manner possible.. nayan looked dashing in kalvanin kadhali though..)

The humour is good, there are some sentiments and of coz some powerful performances by seetha, prakash raj, roja and bhagyaraj. the first half is filled full with humour and romance while the second half is filled with anticipation and events of suspense .

i would rate the song " unnai kandene" on par with love songs like "vassegara", "uyirin uyire"," pani thuli" . though many might disagree with me I think the song picturisation team deserves a pat on their back for such a wonderful song.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable film. If you are looking at newness or something different then this film is not for you while on the other hand if you are looking for good time pass and hoping to come out of the theater happy and with some good memories then paarijaatham is a movie not to be missed !!

highly recommended for all those jobless buggers who want to see some good movie.
